The Construction
The Kalamagi Memorial Stadium (KMS) by the Kalamagi Memorial Stadium Limited (KMSL) was built to create a memorable sporting, recreational and entertainment activities by providing an ultra-modern stadium with the greatest architectural piece focusing on turning sports and entertainments events into intimate experiences that are memorable and exceptional.
Wsp Global Inc UK is construction and design company that was tasked with organizing a team of best architects and engineers to design and construct the memorial stadium in honor of Mr. Kalamagi Kalim at a cost US $6.5bn from Key Coin Assets Company Ltd. as part of the larger agenda of providing adequate infrastructure in preparation for the Joint hosting of the African Cup of Nations in 2027.
The Stadium complex is 42ft tall and 275ft wide, covering a total area of 180,000m2 or 1,900,000 square feet. The playing surface covers a total area of 9,000m2 or 97,000 square feet. The seating is arranged to accommodate 100,000 fans including those in VIP and luxury boxes. The playing field is natural grass.
The objective is to make sure that the facility meets international standards yet has a unique and outstanding design to change the land scape of the area. The intention is to make it the largest in Uganda and Africa and among the top ten stadium in the world in terms of seating capacity and uniqueness.
